Things You'll Need
- Metal bird cage
- Metal lock
Instructions
Hang the bird's cage away from any tables, couches or other furniture that will allow cats to access it. Do not house the bird in a cage that sits on the ground or on a perch. The cat could terrorize, intimidate or injure the bird.
Avoid allowing the bird and cat to play in the same room unsupervised. Allow the bird to roam around outside the cage in the same room as the cat only if you are there to diffuse the situation if the cat attempts to strike.
House the cat and bird in separate rooms when you are not at home. This will ensure the cat does not frighten or attempt to attack the bird. Birds that feel threatened or stressed will begin to pull their feathers out or suffer a fatal heart attack.
Lock the bird's cage with a sturdy, metal lock. This will ensure the cage door does not accidentally open, allowing the bird to be attacked by the cat. Do not use anything plastic, including zip ties, to lock the cage as these are a potential choking hazard.
