Can flies live in cold temperature?
While many fly species can survive in relatively cold temperatures and become dormant, only a few species are known to be truly cold-hardy. House flies, for example, can survive temperatures as low as 32°F (0°C) but become inactive at these temperatures. Some other species, such as certain types of winter crane fly, may survive even lower temperatures by going into a state of diapause, in which their metabolism and development slow down significantly. However, most fly species are not adapted to extreme cold and will not be able to survive for long periods in freezing temperatures.
