Can love birds get sick from newspaper?

Lovebirds can indeed become ill if newspaper is used to line the bottom of their cage. Newspaper ink can contain lead and other toxic substances that can be harmful to the birds. Inhaling the fumes that come from newspaper can cause respiratory irritation. Additionally, the chemicals from the ink can be absorbed into the cage and water supply contaminating their environment.

It's important to choose safe and non-toxic materials when bedding the bottom of your lovebird cage. Paper towels or unprinted computer paper are good alternatives. You can also use commercial bird cage liner.
