Ptarmigan is one of the birds that turn white in winter, but not the only one. While many bird species experience seasonal plumage changes, the ptarmigan is notable for its dramatic transformation from brown or gray in summer to almost entirely white in winter. This adaptation provides camouflage in the snowy landscapes where they live.
