How to Feed a Bird Juice Instead of Water

Providing a pet bird juice is a good way to quench its thirst and give it essential vitamins and nutrients. You can use regular fruit juice or you can give your bird juiced fruits and vegetables for an extra boost. Juice does have benefits and drawbacks you will need to consider first, but once you've settled on a type of juice, giving it to your bird is simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill your parrot's water dish with apple or orange juice. Don't give the bird juice if it is prone to bathing in its drinking water. Also, avoid using juice that stains, such as grape juice.

    • 2

Put fruits and vegetables through a juicer and put it in the dish. Include the leftover pulp as well as the juice to provide fiber to the birds. Provide a variety of fruit and veggie juices for the bird to see which one it likes. Birds are notoriously picky and will likely have their own preferences.

    • 3

Change the juice every 12 to 24 hours in general. Change it more often on warm days to prevent spoiling.

Provide other foods as well. Don't rely completely on juice to give your birds sustenance; the birds also need to consume seed, vitamin supplements or even dog food to ensure they are getting a proper diet. Check with your veterinarian to tailor a diet to your bird's needs.
