How to Give Liquid Kelp to Parrots

A form of seaweed, kelp contains high levels of natural iodine that has been shown to have ant-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties and increase both thyroid and immune system function when added to the diet. Liquid kelp is often given as a supplement to parrots that excessively pluck their feathers when the cause is linked to medical condition, most often a sluggish thyroid. The best way to insure your parrot receives and adequate dose is to give liquid kelp to parrots with a graduated, pet medicine dropper.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the medicine dropper by the rubber bulb and insert the dropper into the bottle of kelp. Squeeze and release the rubber bulb to fill the dropper.

    • 2

Remove the dropper from the bottle of kelp. While holding the tip of the dropper over the bottle, squeeze the bulb until the level of kelp reaches 1/8 of a tsp. on the graduated mark on the dropper.

    • 3

Show the dropper to the parrot. Parrots like to chew and will readily open their beak to take most objects presented to them.

    • 4

Allow the parrot to take the tip of the dropper in its beak. Squeeze the bulb on the eyedropper to dispense the kelp. Repeat the dosage daily for two weeks.
