How to Remove Toxins in Birds

It can be heartbreaking to watch a rescued bird or favorite family pet succumb to illness brought on by toxins. Loss of appetite, fatigue, and lack of movement are all symptoms of toxins in the bird's system. Birds are susceptible to environmental toxins in food, water and the air. Their small size makes them especially vulnerable. If you have a bird that is feeling ill due to toxins, there are supplements you can use to help him detox.

Take your bird to a veterinarian that specializes in birds and have it examined. Follow the instructions for treatment given to you by the veterinarian. If treatment fails, or the bird's health continues to decline, you can try an aloe detox treatment as a last resort. This treatment has had results for some bird owners.

Mix aloe supplement powder or liquid in with the birds water dish. Follow the directions for the amount you should add (not all supplements are of the same strength).

    • 3

Dip your birds feed, fruit and/or bread crumbs in the supplement. Ingesting the aloe through drinking and eating is the fastest way to get it into your bird's system. The aloe will help restore the strength of the bird's liver and immune system, which will help detoxify the bird's system.

As you notice a positive change in the bird's behavior, such as renewed appetite and activity, you can begin to reduce the dosage gradually. Reduce the dosage by half every week, and then stop giving the supplement after two to three weeks.
