How to Prevent a Cockatiel From Laying Eggs

Cockatiel females lay eggs out of instinct. Laying eggs causes calcium loss in the female; fertilized eggs also lead to more birds. Cockatiels live from 15 to 20 years, according to Cockatiel Cottage. Decide whether you can take care of additional birds for that long. Unless you plan to raise and care for more birds, you can take measures to stop the egg laying process.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all items that can be used to make a nest. This includes sticks and fabric items.

    • 2

      Remove nesting boxes and beds.

    • 3

Remove the male bird. Place him in another cage in the room. If, after 24 hours, the birds try to get out of the cages to find each other, store one in a separate room.

    • 4

Remove all but one egg and boil them. Place the boiled eggs back into the nest, and remove the one you left. Boil it and return it or dispose of it.

    • 5

Keep the room dark for 10-12 hours a day with curtains and blankets.
