Signs & Symptoms of a Heart Attack in Pet Birds

The heart beat of a bird ranges from 200 to 800 beats per minute, depending on the species. Detecting a heart attack in birds can be a difficult task, but new equipment such as computerized cardio readers are becoming available to allow veterinarians to unobtrusively assess avian cardio diseases. Machines are also available for surgical procedures that will monitor heart rates, providing an audible heart rate and alarms to signal distress.
