Can you legally buy kiwi birds?
Kiwi birds are classified as a threatened or endangered species in most countries where they are found including their only native home, New Zealand. New Zealand's Wildlife Act 1953 prohibits keeping kiwi without a permit. In addition, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) lists kiwi birds in Appendix I, which means international commercial trade in kiwi is prohibited. Therefore, it is not legally possible to buy and keep a kiwi bird as a pet.
