Why does the bird table cast a shadow?

The bird table casts a shadow because it is blocking the sunlight. When light hits an object, some of the light is absorbed and some is reflected. The light that is reflected is what we see. In the case of the bird table, the light that hits the table is absorbed and the light that is reflected is what we see as the shadow.
