If you plan to house multiple cockatiels, you'll need an even bigger cage. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional 10 inches in length and width for each additional bird. For example, if you want to keep two cockatiels, your cage should be at least 30 inches long and 28 inches wide.
In addition to the cage size, there are a few other things to keep in mind when choosing a cage for your cockatiel:
* Bar spacing: The bar spacing of the cage should be narrow enough to prevent your cockatiel from escaping, but not so narrow that it restricts its movement. A bar spacing of 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) is generally ideal for cockatiels.
* Material: The cage should be made of a sturdy material that can withstand your cockatiel's chewing and climbing. Metal cages are the most common choice, but wooden cages can also be a good option if they are made of a durable hardwood such as oak or maple.
* Accessories: Your cockatiel's cage should include a variety of accessories to keep it entertained and comfortable. These accessories may include perches, swings, toys, and a food and water bowl.
By choosing a suitably sized and well-equipped cage, you can provide your cockatiel with a happy and healthy home.
