How much space does a peacock need?

Peacocks need a significant amount of space to thrive and roam comfortably. The exact amount of space required can vary depending on the breed and number of peacocks, but generally, each peacock needs around 100 to 150 square feet of outdoor space.

They require sufficient space for foraging, perching, roosting, and displaying their magnificent tail feathers. Providing them with an aviary or an enclosed garden with tall trees and shrubs is ideal. The enclosure should be at least 8 to 10 feet tall to allow the peacocks to spread their tails during courtship displays.

Additionally, peacocks appreciate having areas with soft ground for dust bathing, which is essential for maintaining their feather hygiene. They also need constant access to clean water for drinking and bathing.

If keeping peacocks in a backyard, it's crucial to ensure that the area is secure and protected from predators, such as foxes and raccoons, which can pose a threat to these beautiful birds.
