How to Make a Parrot Rope Perch

Rope perches provide parrots with a secure but flexible footing. Available for purchase through many pet retailers, rope perches are simple to make. Making your own rope perch allows you to select the rope best in diameter and length for your parrot.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a rope which is the appropriate diameter for the size of your parrot's feet.

    • 2

Cut the rope to the length that you want your perch to be. The size of the cage will partially determine this.

    • 3

Tape 1-inch at both ends of the rope tightly with electrical tape to keep the ends from unraveling.

    • 4

Cut a length of wire 6 inches longer than the length of the rope. The wire should be thick enough that it can support the weight of your bird, but it should still be somewhat flexible.

    • 5

Push the wire through the center of the rope so that it goes in one of the cut ends and comes out the other. Leave 3 inches of wire poking out of each end of the rope.

    • 6

Thread each end of the wire through one end of each double-ended snap.

    • 7

Bend each end of the remaining wire back down the side of the rope and wrap it tightly around the electrical tape.

    • 8

Attach the double-ended snaps to the sides of the parrot's cage to hang the perch.
