Instructions

    • 1

Place the rim of a large bowl, approximately 10 inches in diameter, on a piece of cardboard. Trace around the rim of the bowl with a pencil to create a circle on the cardboard.

    • 2

Center the rim of a small bowl, about 4 inches in diameter, inside of the large circle and trace the rim with a pencil.

    • 3

Cut around the larger circle with a pair of scissors to detach it from the piece of cardboard. Pierce the inner circle with the point of the scissors to make an opening to insert the blades of the scissors. Cut the inner circle out of the cardboard.

    • 4

Boil 1-1/2 cups of water in a pot on the stove. Measure and pour 8 tbsp. of cold water into a large bowl and add four 1/4 ounce packages of clear gelatin to the water. Add the boiling water to the bowl and stir with a spoon to dissolve.

    • 5

Pour the two quarts of bird seed into the bowl and mix thoroughly with the gelatin. Wait five minutes and then stir the seed again. Repeat. Once the bird seed mixture has cooled, pick some up in your hand and attempt to form a ball with it. Add more seed if it won't hold its shape.

Stick the bird seed onto piece of cardboard to form a round wreath shape. Secure the seed to one side of the cardboard wreath by wrapping 12 to 18 gauge florist wire around it with approximately two inches of space in between. Hang from a tree with florist wire.
