How to Make an Egg-Food for Breeding Canaries

Breeding canaries can be very rewarding. One of the things you must have when breeding canaries is egg food. Offer egg food to your pair of breeding canaries after their chicks have hatched. This will happen approximately two weeks after the eggs have been laid. Egg food should be fed as an additional supplementation to their seed. This aids the parent canaries in feeding their young and remaining healthy themselves.

Instructions

    • 1

Soft boil your egg in a pot of boiling water. Your canaries will enjoy it soft boiled rather than hard boiled but if hard boiled is what you got, it's perfectly fine. Your canaries aren't that picky.

    • 2

Mash the boiled egg with the shell on. The shell adds extra calcium. Just be certain you mash it up really well. A quick spin in the blender or food chopper is easiest.

    • 3

Finely shred a small portion of carrot to mix into the egg mixture. It is fine to eyeball this. You only need about half of one small baby carrot. Use baby carrots because they have a higher water content.

    • 4

Add a sprinkling of both wheat germ and spirulina. Both of these are nutritious, and the spirulina has the added benefit of promoting good coloring in your birds.

    • 5

Offer the egg food in a dish separate from your canaries' seed.
