How to Ensure Canary Chicks Hatch on the Same Day

If not interfered with, a weak chick that does not survive hatches in a normal canary clutch. This occurs because by the time the fourth or fifth egg has hatched, that egg is much younger than the others in the clutch. Some birds refuse to become broody and set their eggs until they have all been laid. This is not the case with canaries. To make sure an egg hatches, pull the eggs as they are laid.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your spare canary nest or small dish by lining it with soft tissues to protect the fragile eggs. Put the container in an area that is the same temperature as your canary's cage. Ideally, place it in the same room as your canary pair.

    • 2

Pull each canary egg as it is laid. Place it into your spare canary nest or dish. Be very careful -- canary eggs are very fragile.

    • 3

Replace the canary egg you just removed with a faux canary or finch egg.

    • 4

Repeat this step until the canary hen is no longer laying new eggs. She will normally stop at four to five eggs.

    • 5

Replace the faux eggs with her real eggs when laying is complete. Mark your calendar. The chicks should all hatch in approximately 14 days.
