How to Feed White Canaries

There are many varieties of canary, but they are generally loosely categorized into three groups: color-bred canaries, type canaries and song canaries. And each of these varieties include white canaries. But all canaries have the same dietary needs and you can feed your white canary in the same way that you feed a colored canary. However, stay away from dyed food. Certain varieties of canary will exhibit the food coloring in their feathers.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure 1.5 level tsp. of canary seed or canary pellets into your canary's bowl. This is roughly the amount of food that your canary can consume in one day.

    • 2

Add fresh fruit and vegetables to your bird's seed or pellets. Fresh food should make up roughly one quarter of your bird's diet or one half tbsp. per day. Wash any fruit or vegetables that you give your bird thoroughly. Then dice them into small pieces that your canary can easily fit into his beak. Give your canary a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables to make sure that he or she has access to a wide spectrum of vitamins.

    • 3

Remove any uneaten food at the end of the day and replace it with fresh food in the morning.

    • 4

Attach a mineral block, available at most pet stores, to your canary's cage.

    • 5

Place a cuttlefish bone in the cage. Your canary will use it to trim its beak.
