Things You'll Need
- Bacon Grease
- Peanut Butter
- Whole, unsalted peanuts
- Bird Seed
- Red Pepper Flakes
- Honey
- Suet Bird Feeder
Instructions
If you save it in the freezer, you will need to melt your old bacon grease.
Put about 1/4 cup of whole unsalted peanuts in a bag and crush them. They should be a little chunky.
In a bowl, mix 1/4 cup bacon grease, the crushed peanuts, 3 spoonfuls of peanut butter, a spoon honey, and about a cup of bird seed. The measurements are not exact but you should have a slush that is the consistency of oatmeal.
Add a generous amount of red pepper flakes, paprika, or cayenne pepper. The spices will keep the squirrels away, but the birds don't taste it.
Pack the spicy suet into a pine cone feeder, or other suet feeder. The squirrels might get curious, but they should only try the food once. If they keep coming back, add more pepper.
