How to Make a Window Bird Feeder

If you are a bird enthusiast, making a window bird feeder is a great project for you. It uses simple materials and takes very little time to make, but the results are an amazing parade of birds that will keep you occupied and entertained all day. It's a great project for bird photographers who otherwise have trouble getting those perfect shots, and it's good for seniors or bed ridden individuals to enjoy nature from their own beds. These feeders also keep cats entertained for hours.

Instructions

Mount the plastic window box to your window using the brackets it comes with. If it does not come with brackets, you can purchase a window box mounting kit from a hardware store. The box needs to be very securely mounted so it can support the weight of the gravel or rocks. This shouldn't be a problem, as the boxes are made to hold soil.

Fill the box three-fourths of the way full with small river rocks or aquarium gravel. You can use something lighter like charcoal pieces as well if you are concerned about the weight of the box. Plastic pellets also work well. You just need something to be able to nestle the cups into that is water resistant.

Nestle 6 cups into the rocks until they are almost submerged, leaving about half an inch exposed. Fill each of the cups with a different kind of bird seed. Adding more than one kind of seed attracts more than one kind of bird.

Use artificial plants to dress up the back and sides of the feeder if you like a more decorative look. These boxes can be plain. Simply stick the stems of the artificial plants into the rocks. You could also try replacing the first and sixth cup with a small flower in its own pot.
