How to Make an Egg Carton Bird Feeder

An egg carton bird feeder is a practical way of reusing a Styrofoam egg carton that would otherwise end up in a landfill. This is a craft that can be done with very little adult assistance, and the birds in your neighborhood will appreciate it when food becomes scarce around winter.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the lid off of a Styrofoam egg carton and save it for other craft projects such as mixing paint or storing little craft supplies, such as beads and sequins.

    • 2

Trim away the flap so all that remains is the egg carton cups.

    • 3

Use the hole punch to make a hole in each of the four outer corners of the egg carton.

    • 4

Cut the string, yarn or twine into four equal lengths, each about 15-inches long.

    • 5

Attach a piece of string, yarn or twine to each of the four corner holes and trim off the short ends of the knots. Gather all four ends together above the egg carton. Make sure the egg carton is level, and then tie the four ends together to create a hanger.

    • 6

Fill the egg carton cups with birdseed. Hang the egg carton bird feeder outside where the birds can enjoy it. Refill the cups when they run out.
