How to Make Nectar for Orioles

Orioles are beautiful, bright orange and black birds that whistle cheery notes. Orioles feed on insects, flower nectar, and fruits, but if you have a special oriole feeder they will gladly come and dine in your yard. Rather than purchase expensive nectar, try making it at home.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 cups water

Instructions

    • 1

Measure water into saucepan. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.

    • 2

Remove from heat and add sugar. Stir well until sugar is completely dissolved.

    • 3

Allow to stand for about 15 minutes or until water is completely cooled to at least room temperature.

    • 4

Place the small end of the funnel into the oriole feeder. Pour the nectar into the feeder through the funnel.

    • 5

Clean the oriole feeder thoroughly every three days and replace any remaining nectar with fresh nectar.
