Instructions
Learn what your parakeet likes and what she doesn’t like. For example, does she get excited when you put green leafy lettuce in front of her or does she balk at it?
Start by introducing one or two new foods to your parakeet’s diet at a time. You may want to start by adding fresh, leafy green lettuce and dandelion greens to your parakeet's diet one week then the next week add rice or whole wheat bread.
You can find plenty of parakeet food recipes online or you can create your own recipes, using the foods that are good for your parakeet. For example, take two eggs and boil them; one cup of chopped carrots, and one jar of baby food, such as applesauce; mix together then put into the refrigerator for several hours before serving to your parakeet.
Another ideal dish for your budgie is a fresh salad, and it’s easy to make. Simply take several pieces of lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes, three pieces of celery, and chopped carrots; place into a food bowl and serve to your parakeet.
Once you’ve gotten your parakeet used to new foods, you can make him some healthy treats, such as plain popcorn that you pop on the stove. If you’d like to add a bit of zing to the popcorn, add a tablespoon of margarine and a half teaspoon of cinnamon to the popcorn and serve.
Keep adding new foods to your parakeet's diet until she has a well-rounded diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread, rice, nuts, and other foods that are good for parakeets.
