How to Feed a Parakeet

Having a pet parakeet can be an enjoyable experience and hobby. All pets must be kept well fed or they could get sick and suffer from malnutrition. Feeding a parakeet is fairly easy and only requires a few steps. With the appropriate supplies and food, your parakeet will be on the road to hunger satisfaction in no time. With the appropriate care and love, your parakeet can become one of your best friends to come home to.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy food and water dishes at a local pet store or a mass-market store such as Wal-Mart, Target or Kmart. Purchase small plastic ones that you see in the pet isle. Most products can be found in the section where they sell birdseed for pet birds.

    • 2

Purchase some parakeet or birdseed at your local market. Any kind of universal seed would be fine. Plain or colored birdseed can be purchased. One good brand of birdseed that most parakeets like is Hertz.

    • 3

Clean the food dishes after bringing them home. Fill a sink with just a small amount of warm water with a little bit of soap. A little bit of light dish soap will clean the bowls just fine. Make sure all of the soap has been rinsed out when you are finished cleaning them. Dry the bowls well.

    • 4

Add some birdseed to the food dishes. Make sure no other debris or content is in the dish. Fill it towards the top of the food dish so that the parakeet is able to reach down inside of it. Place the food dish inside of the birdcage in a safe place where the parakeet can have access to it.

    • 5

Fill the water dish. Fill the water almost towards to the top. Place the water dish in the cage.

    • 6

Feed the parakeet daily or every other day. Fresh water must be placed in the birdcage daily.
