How to Feed Sparrow Chicks

An orphaned sparrow chick needs to be fed until it can fly. After the bird can fly, it will find its own food. Baby sparrows need to eat constantly, making the care of the chicks a time-consuming activity. The birds eat one to three times an hour, depending on their size. The larger the birds grow, the less they eat. Fortunately, it takes only a little over a month for the sparrow chicks to grow into adults.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a teaspoon of water into a bowl.

    • 2

Add in seven to nine mealworms. Crush the mealworms with the spoon. Mix the crushed worms with the water.

    • 3

Scoop up the food with the baby spoon. Hold it up to the sparrow chick. When the chick opens its mouth, tilt the spoon so the food enters its mouth. Do not put the spoon in the bird's mouth.

    • 4

Give each bird three to four scoopfuls of food at a time or until it stops eating.
