Why do koalas eat at night?

Koalas primarily feed on eucalyptus leaves, which are low in nutrients and contain toxins that can be harmful to most other animals. To minimize energy expenditure needed to detoxify these compounds, koalas spend long hours sleeping durante the day for energy conservation and feed at night when their metabolism is naturally low, allowing them to efficiently process the toxic leaves without expending extra energy on detoxification. Additionally, feeding at night provides some protection from predators.
