What if morning dove eggs get wet?

Effects on the eggs

Morning dove eggs are quite vulnerable to moisture. Water can penetrate the eggshell and drown the embryo. If more water enters the egg it will cause the contents of the egg to expand and potentially crack the eggshell. Water can also transport bacteria and other microorganisms into the egg, leading to infection and spoilage. If any type of moisture seeps into the eggshell, there's a big risk that the eggs and eventually the hatchling will die

Effects on the parents

Morning dove parents are very attentive and defensive and will do everything they can to keep their eggs safe including removing wet or spoiled eggs from nests. However, wet eggs can also attract nest predators who will gladly snack on the eggs of an unsuspecting pair of doves.
