Do birds of prey carry off a live duck before eating it?
Birds of prey typically kill their prey before consuming it; they do not generally carry off live ducks to eat later. Birds of prey have powerful talons and beaks that they use to capture and kill their prey swiftly, and their digestive systems are adapted to process meat efficiently. Carrying off live prey without first killing it could be risky and impractical for them. While rare instances of a bird of prey attempting to transport injured or incapacitated prey back to its nest might occur, intentional transport of live prey is uncommon behavior.
