What do starling birds eat?

Diet

Starlings are considered opportunistic omnivores and will eat almost any type of food from insects to fruit to small animals. They will also eat manmade foods, such as garbage, birdseed, and pet food. Adult birds mainly feed on insects in spring and summer and they'll move on to fruits and seeds throughout the remainder of the year. When insects are in abundance, they'll make up much of their diet, but when they're not available, starlings will look for fruits, seeds, nuts, vegetables, and nectar instead. These birds are also known to occasionally eat small animals such as earthworms, fish, newts, and frogs, as well as small birds and their eggs.
