What do captive baby finches eat?

Finch Feeding

-Hatchling's- (less than 1 week old): Offer specialized "hand rearing" formula every 3-4 hours while awake. For the first few days (1-2 days), it can be administered using a small needleless syringe. Alternatively, you can provide water-soluble vitamins with the formula at the recommended dosage.

-Feathered Babies(week 2 to week 4/5): Continue with the hand-rearing formula, reducing meals to 2-4 times daily as they gradually eat more on their own. Introduce finely ground seed mix. Provide greens or other moist foods daily to encourage water consumption.

-Weaning(from approximately 4/5 weeks): Gradually reduce the amount of hand-feeding and increase the portion of soft foods to encourage natural feeding instincts. Gradually introduce a wider seed variety and allow access to a variety of treats like millet sprays.

-Juveniles and Adults:(over 6-7 weeks): Provide a high-quality seed mix that caters to finch species. Supplement their diet with fresh greens, vegetables, and egg-based food once or twice a week to ensure well-rounded nutrition.

Remember that your captive finch may have specific nutritional needs that depend on its species and individual preferences, so it's always a good idea to consult with a veterinarian or experienced bird keepers to ensure a healthy and balanced diet.
