Where does a nightjar lay its eggs?

Nightjars (Caprimulgidae) are ground-nesting birds that typically lay their eggs on the bare ground or among scattered leaves and debris in open habitats such as forests, grasslands, and shrublands. Nightjars create simple nests, often just a shallow scrape or depression, and lay one or two eggs directly on the ground. They rely on camouflage and cryptic coloration to conceal their eggs and nests from predators. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks, which are precocial and leave the nest soon after hatching.
