When did they start eating turkey?
The domestic turkey originated in North America, where for centuries it was hunted for food by various Native American tribes. The turkey was brought to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish explorers and was soon adopted as a food source throughout Europe and the Middle East. The first recorded instance of turkey being consumed in the Americas was at a feast held by Spanish explorer Hernán Cortés and his men in Mexico in 1519. The first recorded instance of turkey being consumed in the United States was in 1621 at the Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts, where it was served as the main course at the first Thanksgiving feast.
