Cocktail birds can begin to lay eggs as young as 12 months, but it is more common for them to begin laying eggs at around 2-3 years of age.
Females typically lay one egg per day and the eggs hatch in 12 to 14 days. The female usually incubates the eggs, but the male may help out as well.
Once the eggs hatch, the chicks are fed by both parents. They fledge at around 5-6 weeks of age, but they may still be dependent on their parents for food for a few more months.
