What do owls consume?

Owls are carnivorous birds and their diet primarily consists of small mammals, such as rodents, voles, mice, rats, shrews, and squirrels. Some larger owl species also prey on larger mammals, such as rabbits, hares, opossums, and even skunks. Birds, including songbirds, waterfowl, game birds, and other smaller species, can also form a considerable portion of some owl species' diets. Additionally, they might consume reptiles, amphibians, insects, fish, and rarely, carrion if other food sources are scarce. Owls hunt silently by relying on their sharp eyesight and excellent hearing to locate and surprise their prey. Each owl species' specific hunting strategies and diet can vary slightly, but their predatory nature makes them efficient and effective hunters in their respective habitats.
