Hunting Behavior
- Pigeon hawks are agile, powerful fliers that hunt by perching on an exposed perch, such as a treetop or telephone pole, and scanning the area for prey.
- When prey is spotted, the hawk will launch itself into the air and give chase, flying low and fast with quick, darting movements to catch its quarry.
- It may also pursue its prey on foot or by hopping along branches.
-Pigeon hawks typically consume their prey whole, but they may occasionally tear it into smaller pieces before eating.
- These hawks are capable of killing prey that is much larger than themselves, and they have even been known to take down birds as large as crows and pigeons.
