What does the kestrel eat?
Kestrels are birds of prey that mostly eat small mammals, such as voles, mice, and shrews. They will occasionally also eat birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Kestrels hunt by hovering in the air and then diving down on their prey. They have sharp eyesight and can spot prey from a great distance. Kestrels are found in open areas, such as grasslands, fields, and deserts, where they can find plenty of small mammals to eat.
