1. Sand the table top. Sanding will remove any rough spots and help the polyurethane to adhere properly. Start with a coarse-grit sandpaper (80-grit) and then move to a finer-grit sandpaper (120-grit). Be sure to sand in the direction of the grain.
2. Wipe off the dust. Use a tack cloth to wipe off any dust that was created by sanding.
3. Apply a coat of polyurethane. Use a foam brush or a roller to apply the polyurethane. Be sure to apply the polyurethane in the direction of the grain, and be sure to cover the entire surface of the table top.
4. Let the polyurethane dry. Allow the polyurethane to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions. This usually takes about 24 hours.
5. Sand the polyurethane lightly. Use a fine-grit sandpaper (120-grit) to lightly sand the polyurethane. This will help to smooth out any rough spots.
6. Apply a second coat of polyurethane. Follow the same steps as you did for the first coat of polyurethane.
7. Let the polyurethane dry completely. Allow the polyurethane to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions. This usually takes about 24 hours.

Method 2: Using beeswax
1. Sand the table top. Sanding will remove any rough spots and help the beeswax to adhere properly. Start with a coarse-grit sandpaper (80-grit) and then move to a finer-grit sandpaper (120-grit). Be sure to sand in the direction of the grain.
2. Wipe off the dust. Use a tack cloth to wipe off any dust that was created by sanding.
3. Apply a coat of beeswax. Use a soft cloth to apply the beeswax. Be sure to apply the beeswax in the direction of the grain, and be sure to cover the entire surface of the table top.
4. Buff the beeswax. Use a clean, soft cloth to buff the beeswax until it is shiny.
5. Repeat the process. Repeat the process of applying and buffing the beeswax until you have achieved the desired finish.
