Will eagles catch small dogs and cats?

While eagles are powerful birds of prey capable of hunting small animals, it's uncommon for them to target small dogs or cats. Eagles typically predate on smaller mammals like rodents, rabbits, and birds. They're more likely to hunt small, agile animals that they can easily catch and carry.

Although eagles are capable of lifting prey weighing up to half of their body weight, they usually target relatively lightweight prey. Small dogs and cats are relatively heavy compared to the weight of eagles, making them less likely targets.

Additionally, dogs and cats are often associated with human presence, and eagles are wary of human activity. Urban and suburban areas where most small dogs and cats reside are also not typical hunting grounds for eagles.

While it's possible for an eagle to attack a small dog or cat in rare instances, it's not a common occurrence and should not be a major concern for pet owners.
