Dancing
-
Parakeets and other parrots will often dance. Different noises, from appliances to loud music, can make a parakeet start dancing. Parakeets in the wild and as pets will dance and squawk loudly, making this a common behavior. This dancing behavior seems to be done as a form of play, or as a way for birds to bond with other birds in the wild. In the wild, they normally only dance when they are in big groups. For pets, dancing could be a way for parakeets to bond with other birds or their owner. Loud music and appliances can remind birds of the wild or kick in behaviors from the wild they would normally exhibit, making them dance to the loud noises they are hearing.
Head Bobbing
-
Parakeets will not always break out full blown dance moves, but will often sit around and bob their head. It might bob its head at a mirror, at other birds or at a human. Head bobbing is a way for a parakeet to show its affection and interest in another party. Head bobbing might lead to a parakeet running, jumping and dancing around in a cage to show off to a possible mate.
Courtship
-
Parakeets will form relationships with males, females and even human owners. To show their appreciation for fellow birds or their human owner, they will often bring them food. They will eat a seed or other food source, and will then regurgitate it for the appropriate party. When doing this to another bird they will get very close to each other, and almost look like they are kissing. They are not kissing, but just regurgitating the food into the mouth of the other bird. Parakeets will regurgitate food in front of owners.
Chewing
-
It is very common for parakeets to chew on paper, toys and anything else they can tear up to keep their beaks in shape. Pet parakeets need an outlet for chewing. Pet stores sell custom made toys that are the perfect materials for parakeets to tear up without hurting their beak. Parakeets can be moody, so if you see one snapping at another bird with their beak, it is normally something as simple as it wanting to be left alone.

Parakeet Dancing and Behavior
Parakeets are birds that exhibit numerous types of behaviors. Parakeets that live with other parakeets will develop a pecking order that the birds will adapt to in order to live a happy life. When multiple birds are pets, it is important to give each of them their own water, food and bathing areas to prevent fighting and tension among the group.
