Instructions
Allow your parakeet some time to warm up to you. A comfortable and happy parakeet is more likely to sing. If it is nervous or scared, it will be quiet. Offer your parakeet a treat by hand each day. It may take a few months, but your parakeet will become comfortable with you if you are patient and consistent.
Talk and sing to your parakeet. Parakeets are naturally social and enjoy interacting with people. If you are not home often, consider keeping a pair or group of parakeets. Their happiness requires social interaction, whether with you or with other parakeets. A mirror will also help your parakeet feel less lonely when you are not around.
Play music for your parakeet. Not only will the music help keep your parakeet happy, but it will often sing along. When you are not home, music should always be played for your parakeet. In nature, silence indicates a predator, making the lack of noise a source of stress for your pet.
How to Make a Parakeet Sing
Parakeets are common pet birds in the U.S. and with good reason. Parakeets are relatively easy to care for, inexpensive and have generally cheerful dispositions. Parakeets are not as noisy as some of their parrot relatives, but they do love to sing and chirp. Making your parakeet sing is more a matter of creating an environment in which your pet is happy than a matter of training.
