How to Mount BSB Birdcages

BSB birdcages are traditional British style birdcages that are often mounted to, or hung from ceilings. They are round cages with a conical top that is either attached to a hook that is mounted to a ceiling, or a rope that is then tied to a hook screwed in the ceiling. Mounting these types of birdcages is a similar process to mounting objects to a wall. Since BSB birdcages are not as heavy as shelving units or televisions, you can be confident that if you mount the cage to a floor joist it will never fall down.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your stud finder over the ceiling where you intend to hang your BSB birdcage from. When the light turns on that means you have found a floor joist. Draw a small "x" over the joist on your ceiling.

    • 2

Drill a 1/8-inch hole into the spot that you marked. You will see small wood shavings mixed with plaster or drywall if you drilled into the joist. If you do not see any wood shavings you will want to repeat the first step.

    • 3

Screw your eye hook into the hole that you drilled so at least two inches of the threads are in the joist. The threads are 3 inches and the plaster or drywall isn't more than 1-inch thick.

    • 4

Hang your birdcage on the hook. If you would like your birdcage to hang lower, you can tie your rope to the hook and then to the birdcage at the length of your choosing. If you choose to do this, pull on the rope once the knots are tied to make sure they do not pull loose.
