Raising Peach Face Love Birds

The peach-faced lovebird (Agapornis roseicollis) measures only 6 inches in length. These small birds generally have a green body, blue rump and rosy, peach-colored check patches. Newer mutations in shades of blue and violent widely appear in pet stores, too. The birds offer a loving personality with a high intelligence. They learn tricks easily and adore snugging with their owner. Not a proficient talker, they may learn a few words with persistence. Relatively easy to care for, the peach-faced lovebird lives around 15 years of age, according to Bird Channel.

Instructions

    • 1

Provide a cage that is a minimum of 24 inches by 24 inches large for your peach-faced lovebird. Place one or two all natural wood perches into the cage.

    • 2

Line the bottom of the cage with newspaper or bird safe litter, such as ground corn cobs. The cage needs to be cleaned daily so that all fecal matter is removed.

    • 3

Place a bird-safe water dish into the cage with a bird safe dish for a lovebird pellet-based diet. Provide fresh water and lovebird pellets 24 hours a day. Once a day, place fresh cut fruit and vegetables, such as carrot tops, peas, apples, grapes or corn, into a bird-safe bowl inside the cage. Leave the fresh food within the cage for only an hour, then remove so it does not spoil.

    • 4

Place two or three bird approved toys into the cage. Rotate toys every week or two so the lovebird always has something new to play with. They enjoy toys with bells, mirrors or wood to chew on. The birds also like to shred simple things, such as cardboard toilet paper rolls.

    • 5

Place a lovebird approved mineral block into the bird cage. The block will supply the lovebird with minerals and vitamins.

    • 6

Place a pan that is flat with only 1 inch of lukewarm water into the bird's cage every couple of weeks. Lovebirds love to bathe. A pie pan works wellfor this.
