Lifespan

Cockatiels' average lifespan is between 12 and 15 years. It is not unusual for some cockatiels to live to age 20.
Diet

Diet is extremely important in the daily care of your cockatiel. Cockatiel seed mix is available at pet stores. Fresh fruits and vegetables should also be given to your cockatiel on a daily basis.
Cage

Cockatiels enjoy a roomy cage. The minimum cage size for one cockatiel should be at least 18 inches across and 24 inches high.
Exercise

Cockatiels need to have at least an hour a day outside of their cage to exercise. They enjoy the freedoms of walking around, sitting on your shoulder or flying in the house if their wings are not clipped.
Considerations

Male cockatiels are better talkers and whistlers than females. However, females are known to be more affectionate, quieter, and more acrobatic than males.
