Things You'll Need
- Collar, with name tag attached
- Leg band
Instructions
Search for a collar for a small animal that will fit comfortably around the neck of your duck without constricting its breathing. Your best bet will likely be collars for kittens. If you prefer, you can also attach a metal leg band to the leg of the duck rather than place a collar around its neck. These bands are available for purchase online and will likely be less obtrusive to your pet.
Calm the duck down and hold its wings against its side as you prepare to place the name tag on either its head or legs. Try feeding the bird a favorite snack first, and speak to it in a soothing voice.
Have someone assist you by holding closed the beak of the duck as you slip the collar over its head and down to the base of the neck. For leg tags, slip the band around the leg of the duck, and snap the band closed around the leg.
Set the bird down and examine it for signs of discomfort. If using a neck collar, check that the bird is able to breathe and move normally.
Periodically examine and adjust the collar or leg band if necessary. As your bird continues to grow, you may have to replace collars and bands.
