Make sure that your bird is in good health. If you have records of any illnesses or treatments the umbrella cockatoo has received, you will want to gather them together so that you can pass this information on to the next owner.
Take full color photographs of your bird. Show the cockatoo from a variety of angles, making sure to highlight any distinguishing features.
Determine a minimum price you will be willing to accept for the umbrella cockatoo. For an adult bird, the average price is anywhere between $1,000 at the low end, to upwards of $3,000.
Decide on the market where you intend to sell the bird. Many newspapers sell inexpensive spaces in the classified advertising section where you can post an ad for your bird. However, you may wish to sell your bird through specialty classifieds, such as online markets for the sale of pet birds.
Write the text of your advertisement, and select appropriate photographs. Post your advertisement. It makes sense to start your post with the highest reasonable price; this way, if you do not have any immediate responses, you can gradually scale back the asking price.
