You can house your pigeons in a rabbit hutch or chicken coop. Each pair should have its own hutch due to space needs. If you have several pairs of pigeons, consider building a loft. The loft will provide space for the pigeon to fly around. Lay some hay down in the hutch or cage. You should also supply a pot of sand to use as a nest. This is where they will lay their eggs.

Feed your pigeons twice a day. You can give them a variety of grains, nuts and seeds to ensure a balanced diet. Food choices include: wheat, barley, red rice, linseed, ground nut, American green peas and corn. Grind egg shell and put in the pigeon's food for vitamins and minerals. Include grit in the pigeon's diet to help digestion. Commercial pigeon food is available online.

Change you pigeon's water frequently. Change it each time you feed them and once in the middle of the day, if possible. You can supply water in a bowl or even a plastic-covered cat or dog dish to help keep debris out of the water.

Watch for signs of illness, such as changes in behavior, lethargy, and refusal to eat. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that is commonly and successfully used for illness in pigeons. It is important to treat an ill pigeon right away.
