Things You'll Need
- Enclosure
- Substrate
- Perches
- Bird toys
- Food and water bowls
Instructions
Provide the largest enclosure that you can for your conure. The birdcage should be at least 20 inches wide by 20 inches deep and 30 inches tall. For bar spacing you should seek something in the 1/2 to 3/4 inch range.
Coat the bottom of your jenday conures cage with an easily changed substrate like newspaper. Do not spend much on the substrate because it will need to be changed daily.
Supply your conure with several perches to move around. They should be made of natural wood as well as at least one cement perch to help keep their nails filed.
Fill the bird's cage with plenty of interactive and chew oriented bird toys. These will help keep your conure occupied when you are not around.
Feed your conure mostly commercial pellets as well as fortified seed. Offer fresh fruits and vegetables a few days a week as a treat.
Keep a fresh supply of non-chlorinated water in your conures reach at all times. You should change the water daily and clean the bowl of any debris.
Place the bird cage in an area away from drafts or direct sunlight.
Clean and disinfect the entire cage and all of its contents once a month.
Take your bird to a veterinarian annually to help ensure it is in proper health.
