Is it illegal to have pet pigeons in Chicago?

It is not illegal to have pet pigeons in Chicago. Pigeon keeping within residential lots must only comply with Chicago city regulations:

- Pigeons are not allowed to fly freely within 150 feet of public or semi-public spaces.

- The owner must provide enough housing, feed, and watering to maintain good condition and protect other animals as well as maintain adequate sanitation to protect against rats and insects. Pigeon coops must be secured so pigeons cannot escape outdoors;

- Pigeon coops, including outdoor aviaries or lofts, shall be securely locked when unoccupied
