Life Cycle:
1. Egg: The northern spotted owl lays eggs typically from March to May. Females usually lay two to three eggs, rarely up to four, in a nest that is typically located in a tree cavity or an old nest of another bird species.
2. Incubation: The eggs are incubated for about 30 days by the female owl. During this period, the male owl helps by bringing food to the nest for the female.
3. Nestling: After hatching, the owlets are altricial, meaning they are helpless and rely on their parents for food and care. Both parents feed the owlets regurgitated food, which includes small mammals, birds, and insects. The owlets remain in the nest for approximately 35 to 42 days.
