How to Move a Budgie to a New Cage

Budgerigars, commonly known as "budgies" or "parakeets" in the United States, are small parrots commonly kept as pets all over the world. Their playfulness and activity level make them ideal pets for many people. A new cage is an exciting venture for many budgies, although it can also be frightening at first. Warming your budgie up to its new cage and allowing it to go in on its own can help ease the stress of being moved in by you.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the new cage to look very similar to the one you have. Place perches, food and water dishes and toys in the new cage in an almost identical location as in the current cage.

    • 2

Hang millet spray or place a favorite treat in the new cage. This can entice your budgie into the new cage more quickly.

    • 3

Place the new cage next to the current cage and have both doors open. This way the budgie can see into the new cage and its curiosity should take over.

    • 4

Remove perches, toys and food and water dishes from the old cage as soon as your budgie seems "at home" in its new cage.
